I’ve noticed when riding the PCH along the Malibu coast that there are several canyon roads that cyclists like to follow, so I decided to explore my first one, and I’m not sure it was the best choice to be so bold.
Next to Neptune’s Net restaurant, I found Yerba Buena Road and went on into a very promising climb. Before you get on this road, make sure you certainly warm up your legs, trust me, lesson learned, I didn’t warm up my legs enough. If you’re not used to climbing, you should know this is a significant climb in a very remote area, and there’s no bike lane.
The road is an endless climb for miles. You can’t get a pace, steady rhythm to climb, it’s impossible, so, make sure you have enough to drink and keep hydrated, In the morning there’s less traffic, especially during the weekends; some curvy areas are not safe to ride in the middle of the lane.
ENVE Upgrades Available On All Mountain Bike Purchases At Alchemybicycles.comOnce you get up to a point where you don’t feel like climbing anymore, just take a short break, hydrate, and keep going. According to, Bicycling Yerba buena is a must for road cyclists in the area. It’s quite a long road to go uphill. After my ride, I discovered that it connects you with Little Sycamore Canyon and Mulholland Hwy which, are very famous roads for cycling in Malibu. Just remember that anything that goes up must do down and if you’re coming back down. The high gear on my bike felt like nothing. So, you must be extra careful going downhill cause you’ll be down the hill in no time, and finding traffic going up won’t make you feel very safe as you go down so fast. You’ll be by the beach in no time. We’ll see how it goes on the next one!
