California is one of the best places for cycling sports. Whether you like road cycling, mountain biking, cyclocross, beach cycling, or even dirt bikes, you’ll always find places to go everywhere. The views are stunning, the weather is fine year-round, and places to explore are endless.
I’ve been exploring my stay in California, as much as possible and found the Ventura-Ojai Valley bike trail, which is terrific for any level of cycling. According to the trail marks, it’s 9.5 miles long, for the most part, pavement, and near the Casitas Springs area, the elevation is most likely between 110-150m.
The beginning of the Ventura River Bike Trail heading to Ojai can make you feel a bit unsafe in some areas. The path is for cyclists, pedestrians, and equestrians, so it’s common to see some areas of the road with ”horse marks” left behind, so you need to pay attention. Also, I was stung by a wasp during this ride, bug spray or alcohol, sunscreen, and enough water are a must-have.
You’ll notice some areas look a bit unattended, but once you’re closer to the Casitas Springs area, the scenery changes, there’s more shade, you’ll find the bridge, the river bed, a park near by, and the mountains view.
The areas of shades are intermittent, and the trail gets busy on the weekends. The Ventura area has additional bike routes that connect downtown, the Ventura pier, and the PCH towards Santa Barbara so you can switch from the country, to urban, and to ocean views in no time, and you’ll find cyclists everywhere.
So, if you’re ever around, look it up, explore the trails and freshen up in a river, pool, or the beach, you’ll have plenty of choices around the Ventura!
