Train your mind, so you can train yourself!

Whether you’re into fitness or not and you’re thinking to start cycling, there are some things you need to consider before you consider spending money instead of investing it. I’ve seen too many women attempt to follow my fitness journey and failing. The first reason, they don’t listen. Second, they have zero self-motivation. Third, they want results with little effort.

You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.

Something you want to consider is that whatever fitness path you choose, you are not doing it to look like or be like anybody else. It’s your choice, and it’s your journey, so, make it about you. Second, cycling is a sport, and like any other sport, it requires practice, training, consistency, will power, skill, and physical exertion. There’s a big difference between knowing how to ride a bike and cycling. Remember, knowing how to play basketball doesn’t make you Michael Jordan. If you’re willing to give it a try, the do so. Literally! Give. It. A try! It means if you have a bicycle, there’s no need to spend money on a new one. Fix it a little if you must, clean it, and get it ready to ride, and start cycling around the neighborhood, or at a park regularly, every week. Each time add a little more distance. Start doing a mile or two, then five, and see if you can handle it by yourself. Don’t depend on anyone else to accompany you all the time. Make sure you take enough water and essential items with you all the time.

Try cycling at different times to choose the best environment and time for your schedule and practice at least two months in a row.

If you enjoy it and are willing to keep riding, then you can think of cycling as an investment. Otherwise, you’ll be spending money, and cycling is not cheap. Not all cyclists like to compete, but they’re all committed to the sport.

Once your comfortable riding more than ten miles by yourself, you can start looking for group rides in your area to join and learn from them. If you buy new gear and join groups to ride right from the start, you can end up discouraged, or will probably depend on group rides to take yourself out on a bike. That’s why you need to make sure, alone, that you can do it by yourself first.

Through self-discipline comes freedom.

Now go on, and whatever you do, make sure you enjoy it!
